BIOSONDA focuses on two main areas.

The first involves researching, developing, producing, and commercializing carriers and immunomodulators, including mollusk-derived hemocyanins, for international markets.
The second area covers the import, marketing, and distribution of products and services in protein chemistry, immunology, and molecular biology for research and clinical diagnostics. We serve government agencies, universities, research institutes, and private companies.

Mission

Biosonda is a Biotechnology Company focused on researching, developing, producing, and commercializing mollusk hemocyanins. These large glycoproteins act as carriers for generating polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies against haptens and peptides. They are also used as carriers in veterinary vaccines and as adjuvants in some therapeutic cancer vaccines.

Vision

Carrier proteins play an essential role for haptens and peptides, which are small molecules that are antigenic, meaning they are recognized by immune cells, but not immunogenic, as they cannot independently elicit an immune response. When haptens bind to a carrier protein, they become detectable by the immune system, allowing the production of specific antibodies against the hapten.

Consequently, the production of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies requires efficient carrier systems to generate high-specificity antibodies against small molecules, including drugs, hormones, and peptides, for research and diagnostic purposes.

Furthermore, the effectiveness of immunization protocols is determined not only by the immunogenicity of the antigenic preparation but also by the characteristics of adjuvants. These compounds, which possess diverse chemical nature and properties, are essential for enhancing both innate and adaptive immune responses to antigens

Adjuvants enhance the efficacy of prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines in both human and veterinary applications, resulting in durable protection against pathogens and tumor cells.

Although the biomedical interest in keyhole limpet hemocyanin goes back more than 30 years, it is not known whether hemocyanins from other mollusks might be equally or more efficient as an immunomodulatory agent. The antitumor properties of the hemocyanin obtained from the Chilean gastropod Concholepas concholepas were investigated by Moltedo et al (page 2690), from Santiago, Chile. They determined if Concholepas concholepas, in spite of the structural differences from keyhole limpet hemocyanin has an immunotherapeutic value as an antitumor agent.
